Forms are available for pick up in advance at the elementary office to work on and return the day of registration. Scranton School District has opted to follow the guidance of Governor Hutchinson in lifting the mask mandate IMMEDIATELY. Students will no longer be required to wear a mask during the school day, but may opt to do so. Students will be REQUIRED to still wear a mask on the school bus due to not being able to keep a safe distance from others.

Kindergarten registration at SES will be as follows:
Students currently enrolled at Rocket Zone Preschool will register on Friday, April 16. Info will be sent home with those students on how this will be handled.
All other students enrolling in kindergarten will register on Friday, April 23. More info will be posted at a later date to schedule a time so we can limit the amount of people in the building.

Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation is accepting applications for its new scholarship program. High school seniors whose parents or guardians are AVECC members may apply for one of two $2,500 scholarships that the cooperative will award this year.
To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA through their senior year of high school and upon graduation, attend an accredited institute of higher learning on a full-time basis.

The Flu Clinic scheduled for this Friday has been rescheduled for Nov 6. The ADH encourages families to go to their local health department for flu shots if they can.

On October 9, 2020, the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service (USDA, FNS) through the Families First Corona Virus Response Act, announced the continuation of free breakfast and lunch through June 30, 2021. If you prepaid for your child's lunches and would like a refund, contact the office. Money will remain in your child's account otherwise.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thurs, Sept 24. All conferences will be VIRTUAL. Elementary students will be bringing home the sign-up sheet for parents to pick a time for their child's teacher to contact them. The Logan County Health Unit in Paris will host a mass flu shot/COVID testing clinic Sept 21-25, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Testing and shots will take place in the parking lot. Stay in your vehicle and they will come to you!

Our annual Flu Shot clinic for students and staff will be on Friday, October 23. More info and directions to get your child signed up coming soon!

Seniors: yearbook pictures (cap/gown, tux/drape) will be taken on Tuesday, Sept 15.

Arrangements for Mrs. Lisa Martin have been made. Due to COVID, there will only be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville. She will be at Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville and can be viewed Tuesday. Her family is so thankful for the acts of kindness displayed during this time. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of one of very own, Mrs. Lisa Martin. Mrs. Martin began working at Scranton High School in 1999 as an English teacher. Throughout her 21 years at Scranton, she also taught social studies, journalism, and was a dyslexia specialist. Anyone that knew Mrs. Martin can attest that she was a hard worker and had the kindest soul. She will be greatly missed and forever hold a special place in the hearts of our Scranton Rocket family. Our condolences go out to her family, friends, colleagues, and students. We will post arrangements when they have been made.

2020 Seniors: Graduation is on Sunday, July 19, at 4 p.m. in the gymnasium. You are REQUIRED to attend graduation practice/full dress rehearsal on Thursday, July 16, at 10 a.m. in the gymnasium. A checklist of what is expected and required of you for graduation was sent in the mail with your report card. If you need a copy, email Mr. Watkins (dwatkins@scrantonrockets.net) or Mrs. Brown (wbrown@scrantonrockets.net) and they'll send you one.

GRADUATION UPDATE: Graduation will still be held in the gymnasium. Graduation will be streamed on Face Book Live. Each graduate will be allowed to have up to eight (8) in attendance.

It is with a heavy heart that at this time we are canceling our Yellow Bus Rocket meal food service delivery. We were delivering over 150 meals each day! Thank you to all those involved. We will figure out a way to get food to those of you need.

Students currently enrolled in Virtual Arkansas (VA) OR online college courses need to continue their AMI work given to them by their VA teachers. This information was NOT included in the AMI packets distributed by the school. Beginning on Monday, March 30, we will provide lunch to students via bus routes. Buses will leave the cafeteria at 11 a.m., Monday-Friday for the three weeks after Spring Break. Students who want a free lunch need to watch for the bus to come by their stop and meet the bus at the end of their drive to get their food. Routes will be run like they are after school. Example: Buses leave here at 3:15 each afternoon. If your child arrives home around 3:30, then lunch will be at your house around 11:15 (15 minutes after they leave cafeteria). A menu will be posted next week.

The latest update from Governor Hutchinson will close school through April 17. The ADE has granted schools an additional 15 AMI days. Our students currently have enough work to get through the week after Spring Break. More information will be sent out when we get a schedule to get additional AMI packets to students. We currently have no option but to cancel Prom. Our hope is to have it in late May or early June if necessary. The graduation date is still good as of now. Updates will be sent out as we get more information and decisions are made. We urge you to follow the direction of the AR Dept of Health and the CDC. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we get through these difficult times.

If you are unable to pick up, the food will be delivered on Friday. If you are not currently on the Backpack Program and need assistance feeding your children during this time, stop by the Safe Room during these hours for help.

The Safe Room will be open this Tuesday-Friday, 8am-3pm, for students needing tutoring or internet access to complete AMI packet homework assignments. AR Driver License Testing has made some changes for 2020. Individuals that have a current permit will now be required to make an appointment to take their Road/ Skills tests. Go online to the Arkansas State Police Website (https://asp.arkansas.gov), click on Driver Exam Information and then SCROLL down and click on Schedule Your Skills Test Now – Online where you will complete the appointment process. Hoping this better serves the public with less wait time.

Isabel and Matthew Shelton competed in The Russellville High School Swim meet today.
Isabel finished 2nd place in the 200 IM and 2nd place in the 500 Free; recording a state qualifying times in both events.
Matthew finished 2nd place in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke; recording a state qualifying time in both events.
There were 13 teams participating including Russellville, Clarksville, Lamar, Subiaco and Rogers.

Online registration will be open until December 13 and paper form registration dates for Scranton will be Wednesday Dec. 4th from 4:30-6:30 at the storm shelter at the school.

Scranton High School was one of four schools in Arkansas named a Wise Blue Star School for 2018-2019. The Little Rock Office of the FBI issued a release describing a possible threat, generic in nature, to schools in Arkansas for Thursday August 29, 2019. They have not confirmed the source or verified the threat.
Scranton School District has not been made aware of any specific threat against our school or community. As a part of our security procedures, the information we have been given has been processed through research based threat assessment procedure and at this time is classified as the lowest risk possible.
We will continue to practice sound security procedures on a daily basis to make sure our students and staff are protected. We will use heightened security measures due to this threat. We will also continue to communicate with local, state, and federal authorities, as needed, during the upcoming week.

Scranton Schools is excited to announce we will be purchasing K-6 elementary school supplies in bulk to save parents money this year! The average cost of school supplies for elementary is $40! All K-6 students are asked to bring a BACKPACK AND $15 to open house or on the first day of school to purchase the supplies the district will provide!

SHS is excited to continue the "Students Helping Students" mentoring program we started last year. Each 7th grade student is paired with a junior or senior to mentor them throughout their first year of high school. We will have a meet and greet for the students and mentors on Wednesday, Aug 7, 5-7pm, in the HS FACS classroom. 7th grade orientation will take place on Aug 12 at 5pm in the same location prior to open house.

Due to weather forecast, the 3/4 grade track and field day at Clarksville Schools tomorrow (Wed, 5/8) is CANCELED. It will not be rescheduled.

Girls softball will stay in Texarkana, Texas on Thursday night. Fairfield Inn and suites by Marriott 9038381000. Further arrangements for the girls will be made Friday to get the closer. Boys will drive back and forth after Wednesday night.

Baseball and softball state will be in Taylor, AR starting Thursday. The boys play at 1230 pm and girls play at 3. Boys will leave Weds after school at 430 they are staying at Hampton Inn arkadelphia 8704030800. Girls will leave at 8 am Thursday.

Softball and baseball games scheduled to be played at Western Yell on Friday have been moved to be played at home.

Lady Rocket softball tournament games in Clarksville have been moved back one hour. We now play at 1:30. The bus will leave at 12:15. Please help spread the word!
