Destruction of SPED Records

According to the state and federal regulations, special education files must be destroyed five years after a student leaves any special education program. This includes speech therapy, resource room, and special class placement in Scranton School District.

Records for special education students who moved away, graduated, or were dismissed from special programs prior to July 1, 2016 will be destroyed at Scranton School District. These are not permanent school records or transcripts. They are only special education due process forms and records.

Parents and former students over 18 years of age have the right to review and request these records before they are destroyed. Those who wish to see records dated through July 1, 2016 may do so before September 30, 2022 at the Scranton School District administration office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. If you have any questions, contact Special Education LEA Supervisor, Candy Harris, at 833-938-7121.
